THE "FLYING BOX" ...

29 March 1966 in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire a UFO sighting took place that is unique. About 6:15 p.m. Benjamin Brackett, 10, was walking with his dog in the woods near his home, when over a hill he observed a metal object. In the first instance the boy thought it was some type of "radar chaff" that had fallen into the branches of a tree. But when he approached the area, he verified that the artifact had a radiant-looking quadrangular antenna that was about 30 centimeters long.
The unusual artifact was shaped like the letter “L”, light brownish gray and had a size of about 1.52 meters long and 1 meter high. Its exterior texture seemed to be "cork.” At its base was a brown, metallic-looking dome about 60 centimeters in diameter. The witness was about 22 meters from the scene and could see that the object was sitting on the ground with the help of a "tripod" -- the legs were matte silver and were about 30 centimeters tall. The witness observed three small dark slits.
At that time, there was a burst of air from the artifact that raised several pine leaves nearby.

Young Brackett heard a low-pitched sound, while the contraption rose between 15 and 30 centimeters from the ground. Then the strange aircraft froze in the air, turning to the right with great precision, like it was remote controlled. Despite the strangeness of the event, the boy thought it could be an some experimental USAF hovercraft. The object emitted electric-like sounds.

After another gust of wind, the engine rose to about three meters high. then 7 meters and moved in a south-east direction, turning right 60 degrees and took off at high speed into the sky.
Later it was found that there were prints on the ground that seemed to indicate that an object had landed in the area. The measurement and study of said marks were located in the hypothetical center of balance of the artifact.

It is curious, from his description of the phenomenon, that young witness had knowledge of prototypes of the USAF and this information could be used by the "external agent" to build the experience.
It is unusual for a child, 10, to witness this type of artifact and think that he’s observing a UFO-like artifact from the military, a hovercraft from the USAF. Furthermore, this experience can also be interpreted as the "distortion" of a toy (Lego ?), with one antenna, like some kind of  radio-controlled car.  A boy without information related to military gear would have believed that the artifact was a StarTrek gadget or flying saucer.

THE 1954 MACERATA ENCOUNTER

italy3.jpg

On October 25 1954, in Col Cerasa de Cingoli (Macerata, Italy), two children, 12 year-olds Marziano Giampieri and Pacifico Santucci, were guarding a flock of sheep in a meadow near Mount Sgaggia. About 17:00 pm, they went to buy a sandwich, and upon returning, they were surprised to find the animals a little further from where they had left them, and the dogs were barking furiously.
As they neared the place, Giampieri observed "something" moving through the high weeds which he thought they were animals, but about 10 feet away, he saw that it was a small, thin “thing” about 30/40 centimeters tall, of human appearance, but with a large melon-shaped head.
It wore dark, tight-fitting clothes with a metallic sheen. It moved in a very clumsy way.
Giampieri did not know if the odd shape of the head was because it wore a flattened helmet.
The tiny humanoid started running towards a strange dark object, shaped like a barrel, 1.50 meters long and 70 centimeters wide, which at one end had something like "antennae.” The object quickly rose vertically, emitting a low whistle. Going up about 20 meters, the "flying barrel" ejected a ball of fire, which exploded when it hit the ground.

italy33.jpg
The "Object"

The two children were hit by a violent gust of wind caused by the shockwave of the explosion.
The object disappeared at high speed, heading east. The youths fled in fear. That same day, a neighbor in the area, Maria Ruggeri, confirmed she had seen a strange flying object pass over her head.Police in Crawley and San Severino Marche, investigated the incident.
Forensic experts were sent from Naples and the current president of the Scientific Association "Bilancia” Ancona, Mr. Andrea Quintini, interviewed the children.
The newspaper "La Nazzione" on October 28, 1954, offered a version of the events recounted by a professor at College of San Severino Merche.

periodico.jpg

In its pages, readers discovered that the strange encounter took place near the village of Santa Filomena Colcero on the border between the municipalities of San Severino and Cingoli.
While the two boys were back home, they saw, about 10 meters distance from them, three small beings with big heads, fully dressed in gray with heights of about 30-35 cm.
As soon as the shepherds saw the humanoids, they (the three beings) escaped, climbing into a small shining object of spherical shape, with two kinds of propellers on the front.

comp21.jpg
This shows a distortion in the shape and sizes of the elements which contribute to the close encounter, depending upon the witnesses.

rosa-lotti.jpg
Obviously, the noted 1954 incident of Mrs. Rosa Lotti Dainelli, by virtue of her being an adult, contains more details and complexity compared to the simplicity of the cases experienced by the young children.

According to the description of the two boys, the two propellers were set in motion and the apparatus raised up, making a hissing sound at high speed, disappearing in the direction of Monte Verde.
At the time of takeoff, the object, expelled a burning balloon.
The two boys recounted the encounter to their teacher. The incident of Macerata has many factors in common with other small humanoid sightings in 1953/54 (Villares del Saz; Spain and Cennina; Italy), where the observed objects are very similar.

UFO MIMETIC AND THE THEATRE OF DECEPTION: THE 1966 WILLIAM LAXTON INCIDENT

There are episodes in the overwhelmingly puzzling UFO case series that prevent logical reasoning.

We are talking about close encounters where the witness is able to recognize different elements ("family") in the alleged alien craft and its occupants (ladders, uniforms, hats, letters, numbers, antennas, etc.) that would point to a supposed "alien technology" to mimetic that of humans, as if the unidentified crew members conducted a "pantomime" in the face of unsuspecting observers present, before their eyes, which is clearly recognizable and similar to the psyche of the witnesses and as what you might find on any other machine on earth.

Although initially hypothesized secret aircraft of military origin could explain many of these sightings, and hence the presence of these mundane factors and ordinary assumptions embedded in a vehicle from the confines of space would be logical, but in other events, overall strangeness of the encounter rises to its maximum power. Our admired John Keel said with great success in his book UFOs: Operation Trojan Horse, "the hilarious mystery of flying saucers slowly transformed into a complicated series of coincidences and paradoxes as we enter the data, without taking anything, and considering all as objectively as possible. "

A clear example of what we try to expose is what we find in a dramatic and disturbing case in the sixties in the United States that brought about an official government investigation.

The detailed description made by the principal involved leaves no doubt as to the complexity of the UFO phenomenon, showing that "everyday" and "extraordinary" go together to override our ability to analyze and understand. No other single incident could present such an amount of absurd and paradoxical details that would only serve to undermine the credibility of the witness's story. On the one hand his testimony appears to reflect the fleeting encounter with a military prototype, but nevertheless, if we analyze his account, it is noticeable that the rate of strangeness of it leaves the door open to all kinds of speculation.

This is the story:

THE STRANGE "FISH" METAL

Mr. William "Eddie" Laxton, an electronic engineer for 56 years at Temple, Oklahoma, experienced a unique encounter with the unknown.

It all started about 5:30 am on the morning of March 23, 1966, on a stretch of Highway 70, between Oklahoma and Texas, where Mr. Laxton routinely drove to his teaching job at Sheppard Base Air Force (Wichita Falls, Texas).

At that time the witness was surprised to see a great light on the road. Then he saw an odd machine elongated across the road at an angle of 45 degrees that prevented his passage. The machine seemed to be composed of aluminum and was about 22 meters long and 2.5 meters high and 3.5 meters wide. It had a window in the side like a porthole and was supported by 4 legs. At the top was a six-foot antenna bent backward. The machine was shaped like a fish, divided into 4 equal sections.
Mr. Laxton stopped his van about 90 yards from the machine and approached on foot to about 50 meters from it; the extreme luminosity of the phenomenon allowed him to see with perfect clarity.
"There were four very bright lights on both sides (...) bright enough for a man to read a newspaper from a mile away."
Mr. Laxton subsequently confirmed to journalist Paul Harvey and ufologist Hayden Hewes that the thing seemed to be lit from within and "had a plastic bubble in front, a meter in diameter, and he could see light through it."

The witness said it was similar to the cockpit of a B -26. At the back was a horizontal structure of about 76 cm long and a "kind of stabilizer tail." The side of the aircraft had some numbers and letters painted on a vertical black and "dark circular window. "Laxton thought it was the initials TL and the number 47 (or 41) and 68.

At the bottom of the object, he perceived a gate about 120 cm tall and 60 cm wide. The hatch was open and he saw a white light inside. Under the machine appeared a silhouette of a “person” who seemed to be busy in repair functions of the machine, using 'something' like a flashlight.

The “person” noticed the presence of Laxton and climbed into the object via a short ladder.
Asked about the appearance of the “person,” the engineer said he had a height of 1.5 meters and about 80 kilos and Laxton estimated the “person’s” age between 30 to 35 years.
"He wore a two-piece suit like a green military uniform with a "baseball cap.” He thought it had three bands above and three below on the sleeve (like the stripes of a sergeant major). The bands were in a bow and below the lines are in a more broadly V."

Comparison with military symbols

When the door closed, the sound produced was like "metal hitting metal."
Moments later Laxton heard a noise like a drill running at high speed, then the huge metallic “fish” rose from the ground to about 15 '5 feet and disappeared at high speed, about seven hundred kilometers per hour, toward the Red River.
After the machine left, Laxton said he felt static electricity in the air, "the hair on the back of my neck stood on end and [on] my hands."
Following the departure of the strange "fish" metal, Laxton drove for a little over a mile until he found a truck parked beside the road. The truck’s driver, Anderson C. W. Snyder of Oklahoma, said he had seen, in his mirror, a light towards the river. No other vehicles traveling the road saw or reported the aircraft.

THE USAF IS INTERESTED

Days later, after learning of the experience through the local newspaper, Laxton was interviewed by researchers at Northwestern University, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, and the U.S. Air Force.
"I was interviewed by 25 or 30 people -- generals, majors, captains, sergeants, clerks, and stenographers.
They had me draw pictures of the object and tell everything I knew about it. They asked the questions and I answered ". The electrician told investigators that the USAF commanders were very upset that the press had gotten the story before them. After presenting a full report at the home base where he taught, a colonel, accompanied by several officers, asked him to lead them to the exact location of the sighting."We were there about 30 or 35 minutes. I answered more questions while several men searched the area. I got the impression that they knew what they were doing." “You saw a helicopter," one officer said sharply.

Although later the USAF announced that "we contacted various organizations around the Temple area to identify a possible experiment or possible conventional aircraft. All attempts in this direction were unsuccessful because there was no plane in the area at the time of the sighting, although there are numerous experimental helicopters and other aircraft in the area, not [for] the date of March 23, 1966." In the official list prepared by the Blue Book (Governmental Commission for the study of UFOs), the case is officially registered as UNKNOWN. A summary of the account, written by USAF officers only differed in some measures from what was narrated to reporters and civilian researchers:
"March 23, 1966. Temple, Oklahoma. 5:05 tomorrow. The instructor, Eddie Laxton of Sheppard AFB, while driving in the U.S. W Highway 70, found his way blocked by a fish-shaped plane landed on the road, about 23 meters long, almost 2.5 meters high, 3.5 meters wide, with a Plexiglas bubble at its top with bright lights ahead and astern. Laxton stopped his car about 91 meters of the device. He walked toward the object to about 15.5 meters away, watching some letters TLA138 or TLA738 [or TL 4768].

He saw a Do men [sic] with a baseball hat, which [went] up a ladder to the object, then immediately the object made a sound like a whistle or a drill and went to the SE at about 700 mph. (1,100 km per hour). No trace of the landing. Laxton found another witness, C. W. Anderson, [about] a mile [away]."
William Laxton likely approached the machine at a distance of close to 15 meters, identified by the official survey, otherwise it is difficult to conceive of the 50 meters that the various ufologists reported about the incident, which wouldn’t allow Laxton to distinguish so many clear details of the aircraft and its crew or the bands that were on the "suit."
It is also noteworthy that the object started to rise with a speed estimated at more than 1,000 kilometers per hour. This detail is significant because such haste in its departure would indicate that it was a prototype of a large transport helicopter being tested or that it was some kind of prototype airship.

SIMILAR CASES

A year earlier there was a similar case....

It happened in the city of Poast, Ohio on October 4, 1965, when at about 18:45 pm, Mrs. Helen Tucker and three girls were in her vehicle, traveling around town, when they saw a bright object in the sky, with flashing red and white lights that gave off sparks of color.
From the car, Mrs. Tucker watched as the UFO landed on Carmody Blvd beyond the depression of the river. Then the strange UFO took off vertically towards the airport; its luminous appearance reminded the witness "to that of a Christmas tree."
The detailed description of the aircraft indicated a red object "as cast iron," with bright wings that protruded from the fuselage, and a cockpit that appeared as a transparent vault at the top.
"[It] worked like a helicopter but possessed great speed," said the witnesses.
Sergeant David Moody, based at Wright Patterson Air Base, failed to identify the aircraft observed by the women, but found another witness, a pilot. The police department confirmed the existence of others who had seen the presence of a strange light in the sky.
(Asked by the local press about the official investigation of UFOs in the country, the military said that in 1965 the USAF had collected 700 reports, of which 15 remained unidentified.)

"UNITED NATIONS" FROM SPACE

Eight years before William Laxton sightings in November 1957, there was an interesting case that bears some similarities with that reported by the electrical engineer.
Again, we find the description of a UFO light in the middle of the road, and the observation of letters and numbers on the fuselage. Our protagonist, Haskell Raper, was driving home during a rainy night when he spotted a light on the road which he thought might be a truck.
Suddenly, from that "thing" came a powerful beam of light that stopped his car about 5 meters from the scene. Haskell then found that this was not a truck. It was an oval object about 5 feet long and 3 meters wide, green, like a military vehicle. To his surprise, on the fuselage of the object were the letters “UN” followed by some numbers that he could not remember. Excited, Raper, while watching the scene, experienced an intense heat wave that came from the object, and his car began to burn rapidly.
In terror, he jumped out of his 1956 Ford which was destroyed by fire. The UFO then rose, emitting a sound like a diesel engine. Haskell Raper ran over 2 miles until he came to town to tell his traumatic experience. The only vestige of his sighting was his burnt car in the middle of the road.

MIRRORS OF OTHER REALITIES: THE GAME OF HIDE (AND SEEK?)

Few events, such as that as experienced by Mr. Laxton, demonstrate the remarkable ability to recreate the UFO phenomenon by "staging" a hodgepodge of symbols easily identifiable and especially assimilated by the witness in an abnormal context.
The military clothing of the occupant of the device, including "baseball cap" and the letters and numbers spotted on the side of the aircraft, were all elements familiar to the witness from his work in a military environment. Even the work of “inspection” of the aircraft by the pilot perpetrated a very human resort: "the repair of damage with a flashlight in hand."

No doubt this close encounter was part of a studied theatricality but sufficient strange elements" to make the witness believe that what appeared to him was an “alien landing." Keel, in his aforementioned work, confirmed this fact, "these objects [are] chosen most often [to] appear in forms that can be easily accepted and explained to our own satisfaction."
It is curious that the extensive knowledge of the witness on military aircraft fittings was represented in his experience in a way so clear, to "suspect" his imagination to contribute to a "construction involuntary" of an "close encounter" adding with these individual military items, to facilitate comprehension.
Neither should we forget that the experience seems to pass in a "portion" of reality away from everyday life, because during Laxton’s inspection, there were no vehicles on the road, as if an "invisible bubble" had taken place away from the scene of our space and time, giving Laxton an air of dreamlike own or mystical experience.
The outstanding researcher Jacques Vallee said in the book “Dimensions” in this regard: "The flying saucer enthusiasts believe that UFOs are simply machines used by visitors from other planets. This belief is totally naive. The explanation is too simplistic to account for the diversity of behavior of the occupants and their relationship with humans. The visitors would have fun, masking the real nature, and infinitely more complex technology that generates the sightings."

To conclude: "His statements can not be reduced to spacecraft screws and bolts. The UFOs are physical manifestations impossible to understand outside their psychic and symbolic reality. We are not witnessing an invasion of beings from elsewhere. It is a spiritual system that acts on humans and uses humans."
The researcher Salvador Freixedo’s classic and indispensable work, “Visionaries, mystics and extraterrestrial contact” is vital to the understanding [that] some UFO experiences "can actually say that the whole UFO phenomenon is greatly distorted. And this is further aggravated when we realize…that the UFO phenomenon… is intentionally distorted so that our mind will [find it] impossible to reach the real causes that produce it. The adventures and crazy things that very often [happen to] those who claim to have been in contact with UFOs has caused them not to believe anything about the whole phenomenon because of this distortion to the mind…"
Dr. Scott Rogo, in his book "The Enchanted Universe," reminds Freixedo, Keel and Vallee, that "something is true; the UFOs are the product or the source of psychic disturbances, neither purely physical nor purely mental. They move in a buffer zone.”

Michel Carrouges, in his legendary book "The Martians Appear," includes a case that illustrates perfectly this line of inquiry: "The incident occurred October 12 1954 at about 21 hours in the field. Therefore, it whould be dark. An agricultural worker of 48 years, the witness, was alone. Suddenly [he] saw a "saucer" in the soil, 2 feet from him. It was shaped like a car, a "RENAULT 4 CV," and had wheels. [There was] a pilot with an Hallab edge of 1.50 m., [who] was garbed in a cap and a leather jacket. Challenged by the witness, the pilot did not respond and jumped on board the machine, about 30 feet over the road, and took flight as an airplane."  Carrouges can not hide his dismay at such an inscrutable episode: a close encounter with a flying saucer that had wheels, "The description is so baroque that we should put aside this incident, but since it is contained in a line of Aimé Michel’s Orthotony, the incident must then be objective [sic], but its content dark and unusable."

These types of events lead us to propose the thesis that by some unknown mechanism or capacity, the " intelligences " that control the phenomenon of UFO are able to "tune in" to our mind when we are close to establishing contact, and “they” extract from it information to form the staging that will occur, including the appearance of the UFO (wings, wheels, windows, symbols, etc.), crew (height, clothing, etc.) and even the same behavior of the humanoids (observer, collector, aggressive, et cetera).

These episodes are disconcerting, so different from each other, and they differ between witnesses.
Being in close collaboration with our psyches, these " intelligences " make and unmake our observed experience, enriching the observation, our culture, folklore, beliefs and even our personalities, thus distorting the true reality and moving us away from any certainty of finding an answer to their real existence and purpose.
The "channeling" and interpretations of some of the close encounters through our particular mental filters, magically allows the witnesses to become co-creators and interpreters of the anomalous experiences we are perceiving.
A true "cosmic theater" that we wrote part of without being aware of it, a device whose purpose is to perpetrate deception, deceit, and mockery of goals and objectives that we cannot venture.
John Keel: "The real problems that lie behind the UFO phenomenon are so complex and so startling that at first they seem incomprehensible. Much speculation beliefs and popular reports are based on prejudice, and misunderstanding and the inability to see beyond the limits of any frame of reference that you are using."

THE ENGINEER AND HIS "COLLEAGUES" OUTER SPACE

In close encounters with UFOs, the mind of the witness is used (tuned) by an "agent external" and unknown, "making" many of the elements that appear on the scene, not only unconscious material related to science fiction (movies, comics, etc.) but even professions, studies, and other daily values that may be represented in the experience.
In fact, the experience is oneiric [dream-like] and seems to be a mental phenomenon very similar in behavior and functioning to alleged "close encounters.”
Therefore we should look into this question, searching for parallels between the two phenomena: close encounters and dream content.
The role of the external agent is to regulate, control and develop the patterns induced (an alien visitation) and not allow the elements added by the witness to get out of control in a disorderly manner and become grossly inconsistent as in dreams.
But the constant evidence of absurd components, that disconcert ufologists -- experiences with the alleged "aliens" -- suggests that the "similarity" with dreams is more than reasonable.

The components are distinct, original phenomena however.

Here is an example:
In the Autumn or Winter of 1952, the British engineer Harry Mallard, 32, who worked for a company, Reostatic British in South Africa, was driving his car along a road near the Drakenstein mountains (about 40km from Cape Town). At about 23:15 pm, he observed a "man" emerging from the darkness, signaling him to stop. The "strange passerby" asked if Mallard had water because he urgently needed some as he had had a little accident. Mallard said they were near a small river and offered to take him in his car. The "man" spoke in rarified English as a teacher might. When they reached the creek, they cleaned up an oil can and filled it with water. Then the "man" told Mallard to take him back to the same place where Mallard found him. When they arrived, Mallard saw a dark area about 100 meters from the road. It was a strange object 15 meters in diameter and 4 meters high (shaped like a disk).

0.jpg
The UFO seen by the witness

Light was observed at its bottom. The "man" invited Mallard to go up and in, where Mallard entered a bright room (although he did not see source of the light, thinking perhaps from it came from the walls). The room had leather chairs like a living room, and many rectangular windows with rounded corners (although the light did not go outside). There were also three "men," almost identical to his companion, attending to another individual who was lying down and appeared injured. Mallard said they should go to town and get a doctor, but the "man" categorically refused. He said he had had an accident when entering the atmosphere, and a window was broken (although Mallard did not observe any broken window). The individuals all were of the same height: 1.50 or 1.60 meters. Their features were completely normal, except for the hair, which was gray, and identical on the five “men.”  Mallard's interlocutor was portly and older, wearing a beige lab coat with the appearance of a scientist.

5.jpg
The humanoid-like scientists

The "man" gave the can with water to his peers, but did not allow Mallard to approach them.
The "man" then asked if Mallard wanted to know something about them. The engineer immediately asked about the functioning of the ship. Mallard was taken to the center of the room where there were eight levers, similar to those used on the railroad, arranged in two rows, and one meter in height with a table behind them.

4.jpg
The "controls" Spaceship

The "man" told Mallard that they operated the craft with these levers. Mallard asked about the engines. The "man" told him the engines worked with another system (without motors). The mysterious "man" told him they overcame gravity with the help of a "heavy liquid" which circulated throughout the ship, inside tubes, creating an "electromagnetic effect.” This created a "liquid magnet" which could override the force of gravity, all controlled by the rudimentary levers. He also said they did not use any method of navigation, traveling by sight (as one does in boats or cars).
Asked about his provenance, the “man” declined to clarify their origin and only said that they came from the stars. Mallard, worried about the injured crew member, insisted that he should go get a doctor but, again, the "man" refused and took him to the outside of the object. The experience lasted about 45 minutes. The next day, inevstigators found four footprints in the area. (Source J.J. Benítez. "El hombre que susurraba a los "ummitas". 2007 ; J. J. Benítez "El Mundo de los OVNIs" 1980)

CLOSE ENCOUNTER BETWEEN SCIENTISTS
In this incident we see an engineer having a close encounter with "colleagues" -- scientists from outer space, with robes and gray hair and the appearance of scientists.
At the beginning of the experience, using the archetype of the "road accident", and asking for water, the entrance of the "actors" is produced through a recognizable action assimilated by the psyche of the witness (roadside assistance). Then inside the “craft,” our witness is told that to control the spaceship, the “men” do not use any innovative method (unknown, or futuristic) for the time-frame -- the decade of the 50s (computer touch, voice control, et cetera). But instead, they use an antiquated, crude method by manually operating several levers:

Roadside assistance

These levers are suspiciously similar to those used on railways, which can be seen at times in the windows of the railroad station, just like those windows that Mallard himself saw in the device.

8.jpg
More examples of unconscious material that can be used in the elaboration of this encounter

Even the picture that Mallard drew of the UFO resembles a train car with the windows rectangular:
Mallard's other sketches of what he saw:

7.jpg
Witness Drawings

In addition, the arrangement of the chairs around the perimeter, inside the UFO, recalls a waiting room of a train station or airport.
Can it be a coincidence that an engineer in instrumentation finds such levers inside of a UFO?
In addition, the crew of the UFO, just wanted to talk about engines and levers (related to the profession of control), and would not, for example, talk about the place of origin of the spacecraft.
Again it is found that the facts and circumstances surrounding the close encounter with a UFO are influenced by the psyche of the witness. And not quite understandable, the crew of the spacecraft, indicated that their method of navigating through infinite space was by sight, without any navigation system or automatic control, such as computers or even maps, let alone the function of an "automatic pilot.” Thus it is evident that the construction of the experience is based, in the mind of the witness which provides information that is only partially distorted.
The very "reality" and "knowledge" of the witness, this time, did not use symbols of science fiction from the unconscious.
The crew of the UFO were presented as "colleagues" or scientists in trouble, to a terrestrial engineer.

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS WITH TROOPS OF THE "ROMAN EMPIRE"

In the Distortion Theory one will find very clear examples of its functioning in the world of UFO casuistry. An incident involving an Italian woman, Jole Maltoni, dramatizes, perfectly, all the precepts of the Distortion Theory, showing that within close encounters there lies a psychological phenomenon, channeled and directed by an as yet identified external agent, connecting with the mind of witnesses to represent a chimera of extraterrestrial visitation.
In Ravenna (Emilia-Romagna, Italy), on the night of September 3, 1976, at about 01:00 hours, Ms. Maltoni was in bed when she heard a noise, like the cry of a bird, that came from outside.
She got up and looked around but found nothing. Looking out the window, she saw, in the courtyard, between two houses, a strange egg-shaped object with protuberances formed by four or five spheres. Looking more carefully, she saw a humanoid with a height of 1.75 meters, which seemed to have on its head an antique helmet in the Roman style with a central bulge, like a nail. The humanoid’s face was smooth. He was dressed as a "Roman soldier."

Definitely the UFO crew had similarities to a Roman soldier ... (Original drawing Moreno Tambellini)

It is evident that the distortion of the unconscious elements of the witness are reflected perfectly in this experience.
Also to add more etheral, "dream" items to this almost ghostly story, the entity did not display legs. And like many other UFO experiences with humanoids and their artifacts, they simply appear and disappear magically.
But who or what thing is the external agent, that produces the distortion?
From the analysis of close encounters (published in this blog) we can deduce certain aspects:

1) Probably the external agent is "something" immaterial and intangible, linked to psychic energy, yet it can produce three-dimensional images of the environment, and even physical matter (traces, burns, et cetera).

2) The “agent” seems to have no interest in communicating any kind of intelligent message, to be understood as an intellectual or scientific message.

3) The information contained in close encounters -- the external appearance of the humanoid and the appearance of the aircraft, or any conversation offered during the encounter -- is the result of the distortion of information that is purely human in origination.

4) The distortion is a consequence of the interaction (communication) between the psyche of the witness and the external agent.

5) The external agent is able to tune in to the human mind, read its contents, and distort information, and present it in a three-dimensional and sometimes physical way that in language and content is very similar to a dream.

6) During the close encounter, the psychic communication between the external agent and the mind of the witness is controlled by an unknown factor, controlling and organizing the elements to give the experience some coherence, sometimes adding common elements from other close encounters.

7) Neither the action nor the stage, or the crew of close encounters is determined or prepared before the experience. The content of the anomalous experiences are the result of an interaction between the external agent and the psyche of the witness. The UFO incident is created at the time when the two "minds" are in tune, and developed upon afterwards.
Just a few basic elements are provided by the foreign agent with premeditation. The rest arises from the experience when the interaction occurs.
Even the external agent cannot predict the content of close encounters.
The unconscious of the witness gives content and manufactures many elements and behavior of the alleged "aliens" at will, as does our mind with dreams.

UFOS AND RABBITS

November 14 1954, on the Isle of Ortonovo (La Spezia), in northern Italy, Amerigo Lorenzini, a farmer, 48, was at his farm when he heard a sound like the flight of swallows.
Looking to the sky, he observed a strange resplendent artifact that almost blinded him.
Descending, it decreased its luminosity, and he found that it was a cigar shaped object that landed in the garden of his farm. Through a side door of the mysterious aircraft, which gave off a luminous halo, came three small humanoids wearing metallic clothes like wetsuits.
The humanoids stopped at his cage of rabbits while communicating with each other by emitting strange noises. Amerigo thought they were going to steal his rabbits so he inside to get a shotgun to repel the intrusion of the mysterious visitors.
When he came back outside, he pointed his gun at the humanoids and pulled the trigger, but the shotgun did not shoot, and suddenly became so heavy that he had to let it fall to the ground.
The farmer felt paralyzed and could not move. Then the little creatures grabbed all rabbits in the cage and returned to their ship.

The object took off in total silence, leaving behind a luminous trail. Amerigo then regained mobility but had no time to use his gun against the artifact because it was out of reach ...  The little "aliens" stole his 12 rabbits and the cage ...

ENCOUNTER IN LIBYA: A DISTORTION EVENT

About 3:00 am on the morning of October 25, 1954, Carmelo Papotto was inspecting the grounds of his Italian agricultural company based in Tripoli, Libya, when he saw, descending from the sky, a strange, silent artifact. It was an egg-shaped object, about 5 meters long and 3 meters high, the lower part seemed to be made of metal, like aluminum, and the top made of a transparent material. The back, according to the witness, "had the aerodynamic shape of a car, with a tail probably functioning as a rudder."
The "crystal" dome was strongly illuminated by a white light radiating about 4 meters.
The UFO had two lights on the sides and what appeared antennae, one in front and one in back.
Also it had two conical tubes, which the witness said looked like guns in their front.
Initially the Italian engineer thought it might be a U.S. military helicopter in trouble or even a secret prototype.
According to Carmelo Papotto the object deployed its landing gear that sounded similar to a compressor which is used to inflate tires. The legs of the artifact consisted of six wheels. When the UFO landed in a plowed field, about 10 meters from the witness, Mr. Papotto saw a ladder in the center. He could see inside that the artifact contained six humanoids moving around slowly. The witness thought they were U.S. military. They wore yellow clothes and had on gas masks.

The strange artifact...
Whole scene observed by the witness has reminiscences to military items ...

The similarities is evident with a military helicopter

One of the crew took off his mask for a moment and his face was completely normal, human. When the witness put his hand on the ladder to climb, he received a strong electric shock. One of the beings told him not to advance. The crew seemed to be occupied inside the appliance. Mr. Papotto says that within the device there were some chairs, tables and a radio apparatus operated by a humanoid wearing "headphones" from which emerged multiple cables. Moments later one of the beings touched a button and a mechanical device in the form of a bell-cap fell near one of the wheels and proceeded to replace it with another. After about 20 minutes, the UFO rose up about 50 meters and, without a sound, disappeared at high speed towards the east. Researchers later found rectangular marks on the ground about 10 centimeters wide and very similar to normal tires. The marks of the objects wheels were arranged in pairs of two and separated by about 10 centimeters. They also found a blue substance that was sent to be analyzed, but the results were never released. According to the researchers, Carmelo Papotto had prior knowledge of the UFO phenomenon, but didn’t fear of the artifact, because he thought it could be a human aircraft. In this case, it is evident that witness attributed some human concepts to the alleged artifact,  in the form of helicopter/car, wheels, gas mask and radioman. It is likely that the external agent connected to the psyche of the witness to provide information about concepts and machinery that would be easily recognizable by the witness. So Mr. Papotto, thought at first that it is an American aircraft in trouble. This event has similarities with the William Laxton (1966) event which also is decoded under the parameters of the Theory of Distortion.
